Black currants still cling to the stems of the bush-little black jewels, dangling among the green foliage. The other day, I picked deep into the center of the bush, gathering a handful of currants each time I reached in. As I parted the stems in the center of the bush, to my surprise, I noticed that someone else had grown fond of my currant bush, making it their home. A tiny bird nest sat cradled among the leaves and stems. Little currants hung all around the nest and few had even fallen inside of it. I left the nest and carefully picked the currants all around it, filling my bowl. With a bowl full of currants, I went to the kitchen for a little baking and came up with a yummy Black Currant Fig Bar recipe. Join me at Carolina Farmhouse Kitchen for the recipe!
