Knitting Tools From Germany

I have been in Germany for one week now. Sometimes I forget that I am more than 3000 miles away from my hillside farm in Vermont. In many ways, Mainz feels like any other city, with shoppers bustling, families on outings, and cafes inviting people to stop and relax. From time to time, when I hear people speaking around me, I remember that I am in Germany.

Our daughter Emily,  who lives here year round, has been invaluable to us, helping us to do business and communicate with the local community. I had asked her to seek out the local knitting store before we left Vermont on our journey. One of our first days in the city, she led us through winding streets to a tiny shop filled with yarn and knitting accessories. Acting as my translator, Emily helped me talk with the store owner about ordering a set of Addi Click knitting needles. For several years now, I have wanted to purchase a set, and I could not think of a better place than Germany to purchase them.

Addi Knitting Needles

According to their website, Addi has been making knitting needles for 186 years. The family-run company prides itself in producing the finest quality knitting and crocheting tools available today. Their needles are made by hand here in Germany.

I purchased a set of the Addi Basic Circular knitting needles. With one click, you attach your knitting needle to a cord. I have tried other interchangeable circular needles in the past, but was unhappy with them.

Today, I took a day off from touring to rest and to try out my new set of knitting needles. I have spent the better part of the day working on a lace shawl using my Gotland yarn. I love the Addi needles! The yarn glides effortlessly across the needles and the cord. The join between the cord and the needle is smooth, allowing the stitches to pass over without any hesitation. With other brands of interchangeable needles, I have had trouble with the needle coming unattached from the cord, causing the stitches to fall from the cord and into my lap. With the Addis, this has not been an issue at all. I could not be more happy with my purchase!
