I’m just going to put this right out there….Great Big Graphics is the best graphic designer in Vermont! Many years ago, when I was ready to launch our farm business into the world, I googled “women graphic designers in Vermont” and I found Nichole Loati. I wanted a woman’s perspective on my marketing plan and website design and wanted to work with a woman owned business. I wanted a Vermonter who understood the challenges of running a small business in a mostly agricultural state. I wanted someone who would be honest and guide me when I went astray. I wanted someone who would respond to my emails and treat me as a person rather than a number. I wanted someone with an impeccable eye for detail. I have worked with Nichole for at least 8 years now and most likely more, and she has never let me down.
Nichole has watched our business shift from just raising Romney sheep to adding farmstay vacations and fiber classes and then to completely changing directions and selling all of our Romney sheep, in order to start a new flock of Gotland sheep. When we made the shift to the Gotland sheep, I was not ready to change our branding. I needed more time to settle in with my new flock and to find clarity in our new direction. So Nichole suggested that we leave our logo as is but change the color of the sheep to reflect the Gotland gray. This seemed like a good compromise.
This past summer, I became involved in a community barn quilt project. Using a photo of one of our Gotland yearlings named Lisbeth, I designed and painted the image for our barn quilt. Seeing it on the side of the barn was one of those Ah-Ha moments. As I stood looking at it, I realized that I had just come upon our new branding. Once again, Nichole at Great Big Graphics was there for me to consult with. With our festival season literally just two weeks away, Nichole put my request for new business cards and farm banner at the top of her list of things to do. One of her graphic designers, Ray, helped me tweak the image and refine the colors. I had always been afraid of venturing into new branding as I feared the expense and time involved, but with the help of Great Big Graphics-it was easy!
Fall was the perfect season to launch our new logo. Everyone at the festivals gave us such positive feedback about our new branding. We were able to hand out new business cards and post cards to folks with our new logo and to get our new look out there to a broad audience. The final step was to get the new logo on our sign that hangs on the end of our barn. I was not able to afford to have it done along with the new business cards and banner, so Nichole was willing to wait until I had more cash flow. Yesterday, I went up to her business in northern Vermont and watched them give our sign a face lift!
In the dark of the night and the howling of a snow storm, my husband hung our new sign on the end of the barn! Whoot! Thank you Great Big Graphics-you truly are the best graphic designer in Vermont! I love working with you and look forward to many more years of partnership!
